Did you know about 75% of resumes submitted through an Applicant Tracking System never make it to a real person?
Applying for jobs can be extremely frustrating.
You put time and effort into crafting a resume or CV and cover letter, only to apply and never hear back. You’re not alone. This is a struggle many of us face, and it can be really disheartening.
What if I told you it might not be you, but your resume?
Many companies use an ATS (Applicant Tracking System) to manage applicants. It scans your resume for things like errors, keywords, and basic information that it can summarize and provide to hiring managers.
This sounds efficient and great, right? Maybe not.
Many of those systems can’t scan effectively when your resume has certain fonts, elaborate formatting, or unclear information. For years I spent extra time crafting beautiful resumes full of useful information to really wow hiring managers. One day, when I ran it through an ATS scan I found that not only was it not reading my font correctly, but it only saw 2.5 years of experience out of my 8 listed. No wonder I wasn’t hearing back!
After doing some in depth research I found the do’s and don’ts of creating an ATS-friendly resume.
This class will walk you through the basics of making a resume that’s scannable, so you can focus more on the content and less on trying to make your resume noticeable.
In this class we will create a simple ATS-friendly resume based on research and information from companies that create the ATS systems. For this project you need a list of your applicable skills, work experience, and education history, as well as any other relevant information that you’ll include on your resume.
In this class we’ll be covering:
What is an Applicant Tracking System?
What Hiring Managers may initially see
Sections of your resume
Fonts and Formatting
Resume do’s and don’ts
Which file type to use: PDF vs. .docx
By the end of this class you should have an ATS-friendly resume and a better understanding of what works best when applying online.
PLEASE NOTE: This course does NOT cover how you should phrase your resume, what to include, or other topics related to the content. It is intended simply to give you the knowledge to create a resume that can be properly scanned by an ATS.
