Canva is a graphic design application used creatively in many ways. Canva can be used to create social media graphics for Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Tumblr and much more. Businesses also use it to design magazine covers, as a source of letterheads, logos, design postcards, menus, posters, worksheets, proposals, cd covers etc.!

Follow the below steps to get started:

Step 1:

Start by going to the canva site and sign up for a free account (You can also use the business version which will charge you a monthly fee.

Step 2:

Choose from the options to sign up for Google+ or your email address

Step 3:

Authorize the access for Google+. If you choose to use the email option, you can enter the email address and password and select the “sign up” option. You will receive an email to confirm your account. Click the “Confirm my account” option. At this point, you will be directed to your Canva account.

Step 4:

There is a green smiley face on the top right corner of your page, click on it and select “Your profile” next, select “edit info” if you would like to enter your information. For example, you can add a profile photo, website link and location. Once you have customized everything according to your satisfaction, click on “Save changes”.

You can now begin your first project on Canva:

Step 5: Click, “create a design”

Go to “your designs” icon at the top and click on it.

The next screen that pops up shows you the diverse types of designs/ projects you can create. These options include and are not limited to, Instagram posts, Twitter posts, Facebook posts, web banners, blog banners, CD covers, magazine covers.

Note: Each design type has specific dimensions, for instance: Facebook posts dimensions are 940 px x 788 px. If you would like to customize your dimensions, click on: “use custom dimensions” in the top right section of your screen.
